Older hair is more likely to be damaged than newer regrowth. When the hair cuticle has been damaged, hair cortex becomes too porous, like a sponge soaking up any chemicals applied to the hair. Therefore, porosity must be reduced before hair can be successfully permed or coloured.
Pre-treatment helps balance the porosity evenly through the hair. This enables chemical services to be carried out in the confidence that no parts of the hair will be unduly damage through the action of additional chemical application.
Pre-treatment works to “fill” damaged sites along the hair shaft. Ultimately, indulging in a pre-care repairs the cuticle layer and maintains an even absorption for chemical services after.
